In 1892 Shinya drew the pictures for a twelve volume, woodblock-printed picture book entitled Shōgaku Mōhitsu Zu Gajō (i.e., Drawing Book of Calligraphy and Brush Painting Pictures). It was intended to provide aspiring artists with pictures to trace or copy. The twenty-seven pictures of flowers and (or) birds included in volumes 6-12 are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Shinya drew the shapes of his picture subjects accurately but he only colored them in shades of gray.
